Can I still visit the ob/gyn if my period is light?

I'm supposed to have my very first appointment with the ob/gyn thursday but I feel like I'm going to start my period soon. I'm very upset about this because I've been waiting for this appointment for weeks. My periods are usually very light the first day and I feel if I do start it will be Thursday and it will be light. Will they still allow me to be examened?
